It’s a unique challenge ahead for the riders in the peloton of the 2024 Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift with two stages on the menu in a single day on Tuesday.
This scenario sees the riders reviving a tradition abandoned by the Tour de France in 1991 and the short but intense 69.7km Stage 2 route in the morning from Dordrecht to Rotterdam will be subject to the vagaries of the wind and constant changes of direction.
A probable sprint finish on Rotterdam’s Boompjes, a wide avenue lined with skyscrapers, could offer the chance for more glory for Stage 1 winner Charlotte Kool (Team dsm-firmenich-PostNL) in the Yellow Jersey in front of the huge crowds of Dutch supporters at roadside.
Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx-Protime) will be looking to make her mark and take the win after a slipped chain scuppered her chances in the final sprint of the opening stage in The Hague. Kool and Wiebes’ illustrious compatriot Marianne Vos (Visma-Lease a Bike) and Elisa Balsamo (Lidl-Trek) should also be considered strong contenders for the stage along with Anniina Ahtosalo (Uno-X Mobility).
