Two Tour de France stages have started in Chambéry. In 1996, Luc Leblanc won a stage to Les Arcs, where Miguel Indurain lost his chance to claim victory in Paris for the sixth time. In 2010, breakaway rider Sergio Paulinho claimed victory in Gap. Chambéry has hosted only one Tour finish, which occurred in 2017, when Rigoberto Urán edged out Warren Barguil, who secured the polka-dot jersey, and Chris Froome, the eventual winner of that edition.
