Clermont-Ferrand has hosted more Tour stage starts than finishes, primarily due to the nearby Puy de Dôme, which is an attractive option for planning a dramatic finish. The city has seen only two finishes: in 1951, local hero Raphaël Geminiani emerged victorious, and in 1959, André Le Dissez took the win. The women’s race also made an appearance here in 2023 during the Grand Départ, where Lotte Kopecky claimed victory and the first yellow jersey.
