THE FIRST ONE
First professional win for Puck Pieterse: at 22 years, 3 months and 1 day she is the youngest winner at the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, beating the record of Ricarda Bauerfind (23 years 3 months 26 days, Albi 2023).
A DOUBLE FIRST
Puck Pieterse recorded her first professional win, which in turn is the first win this year for the Fenix - Deceuninck team. Their last win had come equally at the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, last year, and equally in stage 4, with Yara Kastelijn in Rodez. Their wait for the win was 1 year and 19 days.
PIETERSE POWERS TO VICTORY!
Emanating her Fenix-Deceuninck teammate Yara Kastelijn, who won last year's 4th stage, Puck Pieterse outsprinted Demi Vollering and Katarzyna Niewiadoma to take the victory in Liège. Her top speed in the sprint was 60.3km/h and despite Vollering finishing faster, Pieterse managed to hold on for the win.
ANOTHER DUTCH SHOWDOWN
Sara Martin took maximum points at the intermediate sprint in Pepinster but there was a battle behind her between Kool, Wiebes and Vos. It was Green Jersey wearer Kool who was the fastest of the trio; she hit a maximum speed of 61.6km/h to cross the line ahead of the rest of the bunch.
THE DAY’S BREAK
It was a brave move by Sara Martin from Movistar; she escaped the bunch after 24.7km and stayed away by herself until the climb of Mont-Theux nearly 50km later. Her maximum gap was 1'21" as the bunch made sure the advantage never grew too large. She averaged 37.4km/h over this distance.
POWER OF DUTCH WINS
The Dutch domination continues also in Belgian territory: they are running a streak of 4 wins, equalling the one they recorded in the last 4 stages of 2022 (Wiebes, Vos, twice Van Vleuten). These are the longest winning streaks for a country at the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift.
FIREWORKS FROM FENIX!
Puck Pieterse exploded past Vollering and Niewiadoma in the closing metres of Côte de la Roche-aux-Faucons for maximum points. It was a battle on the steep ascent and the bunch caught Ghekiere 300m from the summit.
VOLLERING UP TO 4
Demi Vollering conquered her 4th Maillot Jaune, and now is just one shy of Marianne Vos and two shy of the best value for the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift: 6 by Lotte Kopecky.
BELGIAN ENCOUNTERS
Demi Vollering 2nd and Katarzyna Niewiadoma 3rd in Liège. They had shared the podium here in Belgium this spring: at the Flèche Wallonne (Huy) on the 17th of April, Niewiadoma won from Vollering. That is the last win to date for Niewiadoma.
NEVER THIRD
Demi Vollering has posted 7 top-3 stage finishes at the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift: she won twice, was 5 times second, but never finished third.
HAT-TRICK OF PODIUMS
Katarzyna Niewiadoma completed a hat-trick of podiums at the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, one per edition: 3rd in Provins, 2022; 2nd at the Tourmalet, 2023; 3rd in Liège, 2024.
JERSEY RESERVED FOR THE NETHERLANDS
The Netherlands won all 4 stages and all 4 Maillot Jaunes so far, but they extend their domination also to the other classifications. After today’s stage they lead also the Points (Kool), Mountain and Youth (Pieterse in both) standings. Such a situation had been recorded for the last time in 2022, with Annemiek Van Vleuten en Jaune, Vos in green, Vollering in polka-dot and Shirin Van Anrooij in white: positions they held in the final podium.
